Hi everyone,
The post today is about Google’s recently released feature called First Click For Free which started off with Google News search results. This helps publishers provide premium content to users free of cost.
The subscription model is a huge hit on the web and users pay on a monthly basis to access top quality information written by gurus in their respective fields be it internet marketing, seo or PLR articles.
A subscription site owner can now allow premium articles from her site to appear on Google search results and users can read the whole article on that site. When the user attempts to read a second article on that site, a registration screen appears. Beyond this point, the user will have to pay to access the rest of the quality content on the site.
This functionality has been now extended to Google web results. According to Google, as stated on a post on Webmaster Central blog, the two main goals of First Click For Free are:
- To include highly relevant content in Google’s search index. This provides a better experience for Google users who may not have known that content existed.
- To provide a promotion and discovery opportunity for publishers with restricted content.
The site implementing First Click For Free would check to see if the referrer is Google and allow the user to read even a multi page article in full.
A subscription site owner can atleast give it a try and allow Google to index, say 100 articles and make them available for First Click for Free and see if this makes a difference to their subscription numbers.
The First Click for Free concept fits in perfectly with Google’s aim of providing quality relevant content in response to searches made by users. It creates awareness among users of premium quality content being available.
Users can judge the quality of the content and then decide to join the site as a paid member. This is a win-win for both users who get access to quality content and the site owners who can evidence their expertise in their profession to attract more paid members.
